TLS 1.2 Requirement Affecting Older Microsoft Windows Operating Systems
Transport Layer Security Protocol (TLS) 1.2 Requirement Affecting Older Microsoft Windows Operating Systems
Transport Layer Security (TLS) and its predecessor, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), defines a set of common standards incorporated by most software applications that need to exchange information securely over the internet. These standards continue to evolve over time as weaknesses are found and exploited in earlier TLS versions. Because of alarming and recently found flaws in earlier version (TLS 1.0 and potentially 1.1), the software industry is, in some cases, forcing exclusive use of the latest version, TLS 1.2, to continue to ensure that the most sensitive data is secure. Older operating systems from Microsoft and others will not support TLS 1.2 and will require an upgrade to a newer operating system that does.
The following Microsoft Windows Operating Systems do not support TLS 1.2:
Windows Server 2003
Windows Server 2008 Standard
Microsoft Windows XP
Microsoft Windows Vista
Effective November 1, 2016, if you are using any of the above Operating Systems, Change Healthcare (Emdeon) will no longer support electronic insurance claim submission, retrieving ERA reports, and insurance eligibility checking.
You must update your hardware well before the deadline to prevent a delay in your billing.
Please contact our Technical Services Department at 800-487-9135 or by email at hwsupport@sticomputer.com for more information on how to upgrade.
If you do not use STI Computer Services to manage your hardware needs, it is imperative that you provide this information to those that do as soon as possible. Please ask them to check your hardware to ensure that you will have no interruption in November for claim submission or eligibility checking (Payer Inquiry). They will advise you on what is needed.
If you do not currently have a technical service contract with anyone, our Technical Services Department can help you determine if this affects your office.
