As more clients are choosing to turn on the Electronic Prior Authorization of Medications (ePA) workflow, we have been investigating reports of false positives in some cases.  These are situations in which the system indicates ePA is required initially, but the response comes back indicating it is not required. We’re working with SureScripts and the Pharmacy Benefits Managers (Express Scripts, CVS Healthcare, etc.) who in turn continue to make changes to their software as well. The problem lies in the data they are supplying all EHR vendors. Some PBMs are flagging entire classes of medications as needing ePA, while other PBMs are providing more granular, and more accurate, information. Despite this, most customers using it are finding it already provides a net gain from the old laborious paper submission process. We are also collecting feedback on the workflow in general and would love to hear yours so that we can continue to streamline your prescribing workflow. It’s easy to turn on the ePA workflow and we encourage you to try it out!
