STI requires and supports the installation of ESET Nod32 products on both standalone and Client/Server installations. Our standard network infrastructure consists of a dedicated database/application server, along with attached workstation(s). The antivirus solution is installed on both the server(s) and the workstations to ensure that real time protection against both malware and viruses is provided to all platforms accessing ChartMaker® Clinical.
ChartMaker® Clinical has no known functional conflicts with ESET Nod32 antivirus/malware scanners and a full scan of the entire application directory, along with the rest of the system, has no ill effect on our product. The ESET product offers real time file scanning and provides protection to the server where our application and the database are installed. If the database engine is installed on a separate server, that machine must also have ESET Nod32 installed. This product also offers real time malware protection, to ensure that spam bots and other malware are caught and resolved before they can become a security issue for the network and to ensure that confidential data is not compromised.
Full system scans of both the server and attached workstations are performed regularly and notifications presented to end users should a virus or malware be detected, with recommendations to notify the appropriate personnel should further remediation efforts be required. For those customers who use STI as their hardware solutions provider, these notifications would be relayed to our hardware help desk so that any additional cleanup efforts can be performed. In some instances a technician may be dispatched or the work performed remotely. For those customers using another vendor for their hardware support, the applicable parties they’ve chosen as a support group would be notified.
To ensure that our applications performance is not degraded by virus and malware scans, we recommend that system scans be configured during “off-peak” times when the ChartMaker® Clinical product is not in use. There are no directories within our product that cannot be scanned due to conflicts and we configure full system scans to take place during the scanning process. Real time scans are made of every open file as it is accessed to ensure that viruses are not propagated throughout the course of business and notifications presented to the user should an infected file be detected and access blocked.
The following system requirements must be met to ensure the smooth operation of the ESET Nod32 product, and these requirements are met when ChartMaker® Clinical hardware minimum requirements are used:

Network security and intrusion detection in networks installed and maintained by STI Computer Services are done at the network gateway level. All routers sold and configured by STI have both NAT and Firewall functionality to ensure that access to the network is given only to authorized IP addresses. As such, we do not recommend the operation of host based firewalls, as workstations and tablet computers within these networks are already protected at the gateway level.
