Physicians attesting for Meaningful Use Stage 1 or Stage 2 in 2015 must upgrade to the “ChartMaker 2016” version before December 29, 2015.

Note: If you have not yet upgraded to ChartMaker 2016, please refer to the To-Do List notification in ChartMaker Medical Suite for more information on how to proceed with the upgrade.

On July 9, 2015, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONCHIT), which is a part of the Department of Health and Human Services, made a retroactive change to the Certified EHR Technology (CEHRT) requirements for Meaningful Use Stage 2 related to interoperability.  STI was informed of this change by our certification body on September 22, 2015.

STI implemented this change for the ChartMaker 2016 version that was released in October 2015 and was summarily recertified so that ChartMaker continues to maintain its status as an ONC 2014 Edition Complete EHR.   At that time, STI was led to believe that physicians using a previously certified 2014 Edition EHR would not be affected, especially since this change has no bearing whatsoever on performance criteria or clinical quality measures.

However, ONCHIT insists that all physicians must be using this newer version at some time during your reporting period so that physicians can attest that they were technically using this version of the software during the 2015 reporting period.

On a positive note, in “ChartMaker 2016,” STI has taken the opportunity to enhance its market leading Meaningful Use Dashboard to make it even easier to understand the information needed for the changes to the 2015 reporting period.  This updated dashboard makes Meaningful Use Attestation extremely easy for our clients.  STI anticipated physicians would choose to upgrade to “ChartMaker 2016” for this benefit alone.

Should you have any questions about this, STI stands ready to clarify this issue or guide you through the simple upgrade and MU attestation process.
